"Since my son has been involved in Theatre With A Twist, his confidence soared. Mary lets each child know that he or she is important and vital to the play. He has loved every minute of the experience. As each production ends, he anxiously awaits the next one to start!"
- Wendy
Theatre With a Twist encourages everyone to work together and we support many individuals with learning style differences. We believe that the staff should be involved in all aspects of the creative process and not simply “manage” from behind the scenes. Everyone involved in Theatre With a Twist puts their souls into the creative process and it shows. The acting is genuine, the dancing fun, and the drama a learning process.
We are proud to offer accessible programs for performers as young as kindergarten, all the way through adulthood. Additionally, we support budding theater majors by providing volunteer opportunities for high school and college students. We are proud to have alumni who have gone on to a variety of careers, many in the performance arts and education.
Executive Director
Mary Spinosa-Bourget has been working in the theatre industry since the mid-1970s. She holds degrees in theater, music, and communications. She began her journey as a high school theater teacher, where her love for working with children pointed her in the direction of a degree in Nursing where much of her focus was on children and adolescent psychology. Mary went on to receive a Master's degree in Education and Drama Therapy, where she was able to focus on the social component of theater, which has informed her style of teaching.
Mary has performed, directed, and worked in a variety of settings, including schools, community theatre, and professional theatre. Her career has taken her to work in New York City, Los Angeles, London, Toronto, Italy, and of course, throughout Greater Boston. Above all, Mary values the importance of theater for all age levels to improve self-esteem and build confidence. Mary conceived of what has become Theatre With a Twist thirty years ago, and her greatest wish is to share her love for theater with as many as she can as she continues to grow the program.
