Ready to level up your theatre skills?
Drama Club is designed for middle schoolers who want to dive deeper into acting, singing, dancing, improvisation, and improving social skills—all while exploring new ways to perform!
Our unique double cast approach means every student gets to swap roles, playing both ensemble and named characters across two casts—giving you double the stage time and experience. Everyone gets a role!
With three diverse shows a year, students perform on a variety of stage styles—from theatre in the round to thrust stages and beyond—learning to act confidently from every angle and engage any audience.
We focus on Theatre being a Team Sport; show support for yourself and others!
If your young actor is ready to sharpen their skills, build characters, and explore exciting new performance spaces, Drama Club is their next big step!

π How to Audition for Drama Club
Grades 6–8 (5th Grade by Exception)
Auditions for Drama Club are your performer’s chance to show off growing theatre skills and take on a more challenging, exciting role. Everyone is cast—but we use auditions to see where each student fits best and how we can help them grow as an actor, singer, and dancer.
What to Expect:
π΅ Vocal Audition
Prepare 16–32 measures “bars” (about 30 seconds) of a song from a musical theatre piece, to be performed acapella (without backing music).
No pop songs and no songs from the show being cast.
Keep your song choice simple! Sometimes the easiest, simple song is better to highlight your vocal range.
π Acting Audition
Students will participate in cold readings—you’ll be handed a short scene or monologue to read with others. - FOR IN PERSON AUDITIONS ONLY
We’re looking at how students interpret character, stage directions, respond to direction, and collaborate on the spot.
Monologue, if applicable for that show - FOR VIDEO AUDITION SUBMISSIONS ONLY
π©° Dance Audition
Everyone will learn a short dance routine together. The choreography will be more complex than in younger programs, helping us assess movement, rhythm, and adaptability.
π Behavior Matters
We’re watching from the moment students walk in to the moment they leave.
We look for focus, respect, teamwork, and leadership—just as much as performance talent. Remember, Theatre is a Team Sport!!
What to Bring:
Water bottle (with your name on it)
Comfortable clothes and closed-toe shoes for dancing (no barefeet, sandals or boots)
Layers (varying room temperatures and seasons)
Optional snack (there are no snack breaks)
Most importantly: be prepared, be respectful, and be ready to try!
We ask that cell phones are away in bags during rehearsals**
π₯ Video Audition Submissions β Instructions & Details
Audition Monologues (OZ)Video auditions typically take place once a year, and we’re excited to see your talent! Below are the full guidelines for preparing and submitting your audition materials:
π΅ Singing Component
Please prepare a musical theatre song (it should NOT be from the show you’re auditioning for).
Your selection should be approximately 16–32 measures (or around 30 seconds long).
This should be performed a cappella (no background music).
Pick a song that highlights your vocal ability and personality!
π Dance Component
Submit a 30 to 60 second dance video.
This can be:
A short routine you improvise yourself
A dance you’ve learned previously
A recent recital or performance clip (just a short excerpt, not the full song)
Choose a dance that shows your energy, rhythm, and stage presence.
π Acting Component
You are required to read a provided script excerpt.
Memorization is not required, but you should be very familiar with the text.
Avoid staring at the script—show us your character acting skills and expression!
π© How to Submit
Email your (3) audition videos to: theatrewithatwist@gmail.com
Email subject line should be formatted as: [Your Child’s Name] – [The Show You Are Auditioning For] – Video Audition
Include your 3 "role choices" and any other information we may need to know. *Reminder: Submitting your role preferences helps us understand which characters you’re most interested in, but please note that you may not be cast in any of the roles you list. Casting decisions are based on what best fits the overall production.
We can’t wait to see your submissions—break a leg!
